Frequently asked
Straight answers about the trial, reconciliation, taxes and year-end, data and security, and switching.
Getting started
Who is AviBooks for?
Bookkeepers, accountants, and the Canadian businesses they serve, including contractors who need job costing, holdback and WIP without buying a special industry version.
What does the 90-day trial include?
Everything. There are no feature tiers. The trial is the full product. Each new account is reviewed and approved personally before it goes live.
Why is every account approved by a person?
So the people using AviBooks are real bookkeepers, accountants and businesses, and so a person who knows the product is on the other end when you have a question.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes. The whole product fits a phone screen, including receipt capture with the camera. Nothing to install.
Reconciliation
What is automatic bank reconciliation software?
Software that matches every line on a bank or credit card statement to the invoice, bill, receipt or transfer behind it, so your books agree with the bank without keying anything twice. AviBooks reads the statement (PDF, CSV, Excel or OFX) and your receipts, proposes the matches, explains differences such as tips, fees and exchange, and posts the journal entries for you.
Which banks and statement formats does AviBooks support?
Any bank or credit card account that gives you a PDF, CSV, Excel or OFX download. Upload the statement or forward it by email, and AviBooks recognizes the bank layout, files it under the right account and month, and starts matching.
What happens when a line does not match anything?
It stays visible as a discrepancy or an outstanding item. Click it to attach a receipt or pick the invoice by hand; the link is sticky across later runs.
Taxes and year-end
Does it handle GST, HST and PST correctly?
Yes. The correct tax (GST, HST, PST, plus Quebec QST and Manitoba RST) is applied automatically based on the province, on invoices and estimates, and the remittance report shows what's owed to the CRA, Revenu Québec and provincial authorities at filing time.
Does it support GIFI?
Yes, in both directions: import GIFI (.gfi) files into the books and export them back out for corporate tax software at year-end.
Does AviBooks file the GST/HST return for me?
No. It drafts the figures for the CRA form from your invoices, bills and receipts. You review and file them yourself or with your accountant.
Data and security
Is my data protected?
Data is encrypted in transit, sensitive data is encrypted at rest, and sign-ins support two-factor authentication. Outside reviewers only ever get scoped, read-only, revocable access to a single company. See the Legal page for the full statement.
Can I take my data out?
Yes. GIFI export, Excel workbooks, IIF and CSV exports carry your books out at any time. You are never locked in.
Can my accountant see all my companies?
Only the company you share, read-only, through a link you can revoke. A full team member gets a role instead, with permissions to match.
Switching
Can AviBooks replace my current accounting software?
Yes, that's what it's for. AviBooks covers the daily work legacy accounting products are used for in Canada: invoicing, bills, double-entry books, bank reconciliation, financial statements and CRA-ready reports, in one platform with no add-on modules. Your books come across through GIFI or CSV exports in a few clicks.
Which software can I import from?
Any product that exports an IIF general journal or a CSV ledger, and any T2 workflow that produces GIFI files.
Run three real month-ends on us.
The full product for 90 days. Import your existing books and see for yourself.
